For many drivers, owning an Audi is the dream. Over the past 106 years, the German brand has built a reputation as a leading car manufacturer, associated with luxury and innovation. In fact, it’s this dedication to technological advancement that has helped the brand pave the way in the automotive industry.

Earlier in the year, Audi unveiled some of their latest models, including the Audi R8 Spyder V10 and a new mixed mobility concept. Here, Audi dealership Vindis talks us through how the brand is driving their vehicles forward with fresh ideas.

Audi R8 Spyder V1:

At Audi City London, Audi made the domestic debut of the much-anticipated R8 Spyder V10. Capable of reaching speeds of a road-scorching 197mph, the car has been carefully tweaked to make it even more powerful.

The V10 engine is of particular interest. The latest in the Audi family, the engine helps the car go from 0 to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds thanks to 540PS of power and 540 Nm (398.3 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. Helping drivers power through the gears is a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission.

Also working to improve the top speed the car can reach is the changes that have been made to the chassis. The vehicle boasts an Audi Space Frame, which offers an intelligent mix of aluminium and carbon fibre, making it lightweight yet strong. To further reduce the weight of the vehicle, the components are now lighter. These changes have resulted in a body that weighs just 208kgs, with the car’s dry weight an impressive 1,612kg.

Audi Mixed Mobility Model:

Across the globe at Auto China in Beijing, Audi was also unveiling a mixed mobility concept designed for urban areas. Based on the Audi Q3, the vehicle features a longboard which is loaded and charged in the bonnet.

The longboard is designed to be used to get drivers from A to B in the quickest way possible. For example, if a driver becomes stuck in traffic, they can find a parking spot and use the longboard to complete the rest of their journey.

The board offers three different riding modes: Scooter Mode, Sport Mode (where the board acts like a skateboard) and Shopping Mode (where the board can be used to transport bag and luggage). To help you know when to use the board, the vehicle — in conjunction with a smartphone app — uses real-time data to update drivers about the quickest route.

Is this one step closer to the hover boards of the future? Wherever the future is headed, it’s clear Audi will remain at the forefront.
